01 Art Jewels
aMoiBe design art jewels are dedicated to the transformation of old or discarded material into unique art to wear – original statement pieces to express oneself. Their one-of-a-kind designs are a manifestation of the potential of creative reuse, honouring history and connecting the past with the present and future.
The jewels have bold and organic forms that are drawn from the natural world and nature-inspired art. They are handmade – slow jewellery – with simple tools and techniques and always carry some metaphorical significance in their story.
Design
For me, a design is an interplay between form, technique and material. They embody the limits as well as the potential of a design. I work towards specific forms, from circles and spheres to biomorphic shapes and human silhouettes, with an emphasis on negative space. I make them by hand with salvaged, old, vintage, discarded and offcut materials and ancient techniques. And within these boundaries there are endless possibilities!
One of a Kind
aMoiBe design jewels are one of a kind, or in some cases limited editions where the designs are very similar but never quite the same in terms of material, size or texture.
The jewels are all part of thematic, open-ended and intersected series that I work on alternately, depending on the season (whether or not I can work outside), available tools & material and my form fascination of the moment.
Series
Some series are inspired primarily by form, other series may have a multitude of my favourite forms and the cohesion is manifested in ‘mood’ or style, the used technique and/or (juxtaposition of) material and sometimes it’s a perfect mix.
The series are not strictly divided, some overlap and they all have a story. And once in a while I start a new one…
