FAQ
Do you make jewels or objects on ‘commission’?
It depends. I don’t make jewels or objects that are designed by someone else. I do on occasion design something on request, after ample consultation, if I have the time. It’s a collaborative process at the beginning but ultimately I retain full artistic freedom. Usually the intention is to integrate something personal into a design that is in keeping with my work method and aesthetic principles.
Do you make jewels or objects ‘made to order’?
Yes. After a consultation, it may be possible for me to make something similar to, never quite the same as, some of my jewels or objects in my collection. For example in a different size or with different materials. For some jewels and objects it is possible to integrate personal ‘old stuff’. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss options.
How do I find out about your exhibitions ?
When I have an upcoming exhibition, it is announced on my mainpage as well as on the page About the artist and my social media like Instagram and Linkedin. If you would like to be notified by email, please get in touch and I will add you to my mailing list.
Are you open to collaborations with other artists, jewellery or otherwise, for exhibitions or alternative projects?
Absolutely! Especially if there is a shared interest in showcasing the potential of creative reuse and/or a certain esthetic synergy when different media or crafts are combined. If you would like to explore possibilities, please get in touch!
Is it possible to buy a piece of jewellery or an object from the available works (per series)?
Yes, in principle. If you get in touch with the number under the particular image of the piece, I can let you know if it is indeed still available and if it is possible to send it to you (depending on where you are based) and the costs involved. I may also have something very similar in stock that is not on the website (yet). If you would like to see it first in person, we could set up an appointment in The Hague or perhaps at an exhibition.
Is it possible to buy jewellery or objects from the archive / prototype section in a series?
If you see something in the archive / prototype section of a series, it means it is not available right now to buy. However, it may be possible to buy something similar, in stock or ‘made to order’ (in your size and perhaps in a different combination of metals, coloured beads etc.). Please get in touch to discuss the possibilities.
There are no prices on your website, can you give me an indication?
There are no prices on my website because firstly, it is not a webshop and secondly because some of the prices fluctuate with market prices for e.g. silver. As an indication, most of my jewels and objects are priced between €75-€350.
Is it possible to bring my own materials (like old jewellery) for you to make something?
Generally and ideally, yes! But it does depend on the material. For objects pretty much anything goes. For making jewellery, it is not as clearcut. Can I identify the alloy in case of metals (generally not a problem with silver and gold), is the colour or shape of e.g. vintage beads something I can work with? As long as the material is a good match with my style and work method, a lot is possible!
Do you have information about sizing or care instructions?
Yes. If you get in touch to enquire about a specific item, I can tell you the exact sizes of jewels or objects, how to measure your own size (in the case of a ring), and how to best take care of it (how to store and polish).
Are your jewels hypoallergenic or wearable for people with skin sensitivities?
It depends. It’s a matter of the material and your personal experience. Most people are fine wearing silver, gold, aluminium, iron and Perspex. Allergies for copper are rare (or copper alloys like brass and bronze) but it can stain your fingers with extensive wear when the copper gets in touch with sweat, water, skincare products, perfume etc. and oxidises. These green-brownish stains are not a skin reaction perse, as they are smudges from the oxidation, but they can cause a non-allergic surface irritation for some.
So it’s best not to wear copper (alloys) on a daily basis but more as statement pieces for special occasions if you find your skin reacts to it quickly. It also helps a lot if you take good care of your jewels (stored in a dry place and polished regularly) and even then, some base metals naturally oxidise with time. If applicable, in the case of earrings, I can usually exchange the earwires, from a non-precious to a precious metal if you prefer.
Generally, if you have particularly sensitive skin, you are best off with 18k (or higher) yellow gold (or e.g. platinum, which I do not have in my collection), which are so-called ‘biocompatible’ metals that don’t react with body fluids. Please get in touch if you would like to discuss more specifically.
If I buy a piece of jewellery or an object and I change my mind, can I return it, for a refund?
Yes. Within the EU you have the right to change your mind in the 14 days after physically receiving your purchase, for a full refund. After notification you also have 14 days to send it back. The exceptions: items you bought ‘made to order’ (specifically designed for you or made to your size) and earrings (for hygiene reasons, unless returned unopened with pouch seal still intact). Please get in touch if you would prefer to see something in person first, we could set up an appointment in The Hague.
Is it possible to see a piece of jewellery or an object in person?
Yes. We could set up an appointment in The Hague for a viewing / fitting, or perhaps if I am participating in an exhibition elsewhere we could make an appointment there. And as I work in different locations, it is always worth getting in touch to see if we could set up an appointment nearer to where you are.
