02 Art Objects

aMoiBe design art objects,  like jewels, are rooted in the concept of transformation and feature some of my favourite forms like oloids and amoeba shapes, as well as free forms. Whether they are small functional objects or standalone art pieces, whether they are made in repurposed metal or in the more malleable soapstone or clay, there is always an element of experimentation and metamorphosis.

The objects are all handmade - literally, in the case of clay sculptures. The metal and soapstone objets d’art and sculptures are made with old-fashioned hand tools and techniques, most of them outside.

Scale and Purpose

When exploring a particular theme for aMoiBe design jewels, I like to take certain designs to a grander scale and a different purpose, shifting from personal adornment to functional objects and standalone art. And sometimes this process happens in the reverse.

One of a Kind

aMoiBe design objects are all one of a kind. Some have similar forms but the sizes, proportions or textures are different, or certain components are personalised. Sometimes I work towards specific forms, other times I create purely experimental pieces, ‘free form’, and here and there a political statement seeps in…

Form and Size

The aMoiBe design objects are categorised by material and feature some of the forms that are found in my jewellery series, such as oloids and organic amoeba forms. Most of the objects – in metal, clay or soap stone – fit right in the palm of your hand. Some would fit in your arms and my dream is to go bigger still!
